Biology
In lab, proteins called enzymes to do important jobs like sequencing DNA and building new genes. Enzymes need to be kept cold before use so ice buckets and liquid nitrogen containers (like the one on the floor) are common.
When not on ice, enzymes like to cozy up with friends. They work better when rubbing elbows with other proteins. BSA (Bovine Serum Albumin) is a source of helper proteins. Albumin is a protein in blood and cow blood is a common source. Like extras in a movie, Albumin fills in space around the star of the show–the enzyme.
Next time you’re having trouble getting work done, try packing your office with cows and watch your productivity increase! (118 words)
Drawing
This is the original drawing from 2016. I’ve always liked this joke, but thought I could improve the drawing by:
spending more time on the stick arms of the snow people.
adding a simple background and some depth to the scene.
rendering the lab setting with a bit more detail (always something I like to do).
Here’s another snowman-themed cartoon. This one set in the Human Resources Department.
